HTML & CSS reference

<title>

The page title: the text on the browser tab and in search results.

Syntax

<title>Page name</title>

Examples

The title goes inside <head>:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">
  <head>
    <title>Contacts — The Bean coffee shop</title>
  </head>
  <body>
    <p>Look at the tab: the title is shown there, not on the page.</p>
  </body>
</html>

Notes

Keep the title short and unique for every page: first what the page is about, then the site name. Do not confuse the <title> tag with the title attribute, which shows a tooltip.
