1. Who we are

Encodera is a free website for learning programming: tutorials, reference, questions and answers, framework courses and an in-browser code sandbox.

2. What data we collect

When you create and use an account, we process:

  • your email address;
  • your username (login);
  • your password, stored only as a hash — we never know the password itself;
  • the language of the interface you chose;
  • your learning progress: completed lessons and statistics;
  • session data: IP address and browser user agent;
  • the date and time of registration and sign-ins.

If you sign in with Google, GitHub or VK, we receive your name, email address and avatar from that provider.

Code you type in the sandbox runs in your browser and is not sent to our server.

  • Creating and running your account and signing you in — performance of a contract (our terms of use).
  • Saving your learning progress — performance of a contract.
  • Sending password recovery emails — performance of a contract.
  • Keeping the site secure and preventing abuse — our legitimate interests.
  • Answering your requests — our legitimate interests.

Where the law requires your consent, we ask for it, and you can withdraw it at any time.

4. Cookies and browser storage

We use a necessary session cookie, which keeps you signed in. Your theme choice is stored in your browser (localStorage) and is not sent to us.

We use the Yandex Metrica web analytics service (Yandex LLC). It collects pseudonymous information about visits: pages viewed, where you came from, device and browser type, approximate location based on the IP address, and actions on the page (clicks, scrolling, including session replay — Webvisor), and stores cookies for this. Webvisor does not record passwords or the contents of input fields. We use this to understand which materials are useful and to improve the site (legitimate interests). We also use Google Analytics (Google LLC). It collects pseudonymous information about visits: pages viewed, where you came from, device and browser type and approximate location, and stores cookies for this. The data is processed on Google's servers, including outside your country. Google's privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; signing in does not work without the session cookie.

We show ads from the Yandex Advertising Network (Yandex LLC). To choose ads, Yandex may use cookies and pseudonymous information about visits under its own terms: https://yandex.com/legal/confidential/. We do not share your account data with Yandex.

5. Donations

Donations are voluntary and are made through PayPal or by a bank card transfer that you make outside the site. We do not receive or store payment card data.

6. Who we share data with

We do not sell your data. We share it only with:

  • the hosting provider whose servers store the site's data;
  • the email service used to send password recovery emails;
  • authorities, when the law requires it.

If your data is transferred to another country, this is done in accordance with the applicable law.

7. How long we keep data

We keep your data until your account is deleted, unless the law requires us to keep it longer.

8. Your rights

You have the right to:

  • access your personal data;
  • correct inaccurate data;
  • have your data deleted;
  • restrict or object to processing;
  • receive your data in a portable format;
  • withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent;
  • lodge a complaint with a data protection authority.

9. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data against unauthorised access, loss and misuse.
